I was first licensed in 1987 at the age of 21. Immediately, I went to work for Coldwell Banker in North Seattle. There I earned the GRI designation from the Realtors Institute. Many of my customers were real estate investors who needed someone with a sharp eye for the big picture, from initial investment, to rehab to reselling at a profit. Not just someone who wanted to sell something just to make a commission. These investors became the bread and butter of my business for years.
I learned real estate investment from some of the best real estate investors in King County. After 5 years of helping others I decided to try my hand in investing for myself. I used the methods I acquired from my customers and applied them to my own real estate transactions. After acquiring 20 or so properties in a 10 year period I retired, bought a condo in Phoenix and decided to become a snowbird. UGH! This did not work out, I have way too much energy! I wanted to get back into Real Estate but did not want to work for a huge profit hungry company where my energy, ability and creativity would be quickly lost in the crowd.
In July of 2003 I decided to open American Classic Homes Real Estate. It was obvious within weeks of the Grand Opening that this was the best move I could have made. Instead of wearing the title of broker/owner, I hired a seasoned veteran, Bill Boyer as Broker and I took the title of Sales Associate. This let my customers know that I was committed to THEM and their needs. The initial investment in the “Right Things” such as professional design of the Logo, Marketing Material and a huge investment in Technology gave the NEW company “the edge” right out of the starting gate. The company quickly gained a reputation for honesty, integrity and excellent service. We became profitable within 2 months. People discovered that it was fun and rewarding doing business with a smaller company because of the relaxed atsmophere.
In 2005, American Classic Homes outgrew our old office space and purchased a stand alone building on Benson Hill. At this time we invested our resources in our popular FREE Moving Truck, our unrivaled IDX, and a host of other things that set us apart from the run of the mill real estate companies. These efforts did not go unnoticed, we were awarded the Renton Chamber of Commerce Business Excellence Award for 2004, 2007, and 2010. .
